{"id":1290,"date":"2018-10-13T13:10:40","date_gmt":"2018-10-13T17:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/control-h.org\/wordpress\/?p=1290"},"modified":"2018-10-13T13:10:40","modified_gmt":"2018-10-13T17:10:40","slug":"withdraw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/control-h.org\/index.php\/2018\/10\/13\/withdraw\/","title":{"rendered":"Withdraw"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Over the past couple of weeks, I&#8217;ve really made an effort to really withdraw from social media.\u00a0 There are many reasons for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a0Google and Facebook.\u00a0 I was utterly disgusted listening to the Senate testimony\u00a0a few weeks ago.\u00a0 The company who used to have the principle of &#8220;don&#8217;t be evil,&#8221; is now okay doing things with repressive governments.\u00a0 I also noticed that GMail, and Facebook were suggesting friends I&#8217;d never even considered connecting with apart from private emails on <a href=\"http:\/\/757.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">757.org.<\/a>\u00a0 So, the bits of doubt were planted early.\u00a0 The testimony, the actions of perhaps less-than-honest mining, and politicans who purportedly represent <strong>me<\/strong>, I decided to really curtail things.\u00a0 Well, that combined with;<br\/><\/li><li>Politics.\u00a0 I am at odds with the strains of jubilation from people who view me as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2018\/10\/poll-shows-activism-highest-among-non-religious-democrats\/572674\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heretic<\/a>, as well as the even older people who trot out other stupid stuff.\u00a0 <em>I don&#8217;t care.<\/em>\u00a0 Really.\u00a0 Everybody thinks I&#8217;m evil because&#8230; Again, <em>I don&#8217;t care.<\/em>\u00a0 I am who I am.\u00a0 I explore ideas that are contrary to my conclusions.\u00a0 But I shouldn&#8217;t be able to do that.\u00a0 That I might access things not approved by the commissars is a problem.\u00a0 I&#8217;m free to leave. <del>Well, for now.<\/del>\u00a0 The strike-through is intentional;\u00a0 I can leave, and there&#8217;s nothing that can stop me.\u00a0 This is a problem for both businesses and governments.\u00a0 Sorry.\u00a0 The Internet, and the <em>math that underlies it<\/em>, are things that business and government can&#8217;t surpress without resorting to the ultimate weapon of government &#8212; force.\u00a0 Fine.\u00a0 Whatever.\u00a0<\/li><li>When I chose to withdraw from FB, I jettisoned also G+, and LinkedIn.\u00a0 G+, of course, had a similar data breech to FB.\u00a0 I was tempted to say, &#8220;purportedly it&#8217;s shut down,&#8221; but i looked around, and it&#8217;s still up.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/08\/technology\/google-plus-security-disclosure.htmlhttps:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/08\/technology\/google-plus-security-disclosure.html\">For now<\/a>.
