{"id":1745,"date":"2013-06-30T16:38:43","date_gmt":"2013-06-30T20:38:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/control-h.org\/blog\/wordpress\/?p=702"},"modified":"2013-06-30T16:38:43","modified_gmt":"2013-06-30T20:38:43","slug":"change-for-changes-sake-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/control-h.org\/index.php\/2013\/06\/30\/change-for-changes-sake-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Change for change&#039;s sake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sarah and I went to her parents&#8217; place yesterday for her sister&#8217;s birthday\/delayed Fathers&#8217; Day celebration.<br \/>\nAfter lunch, my FIL was watching something on HGTV. \u00a0Essentially, other rich &amp; famous would hire this soap actress and her musician boyfuck\/husband (they got married while they were shooting the episode) re-do a room. \u00a0Budgeting is sketchy. \u00a0Even more sketchy is scope.<br \/>\nThis guy hired them to\u00a0<strong>do the kitchen<\/strong>. \u00a0Perhaps the kitchen needed work. \u00a0I don&#8217;t know. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t notice anything wrong with it, myself, but I wasn&#8217;t there.<br \/>\nRegardless, they spent zero time doing needs analysis with the owner to find out what he actually needed or wanted to be doing\u00a0<em>in\u00a0<strong>his<\/strong><\/em> kitchen. \u00a0Boyfuck\/hubby, in between clips of him playing guitar, made some changes.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Ms.\/Mrs. Actress went about &#8220;fixing&#8221; the living\/dining room adjacent to the kitchen.<br \/>\nThat fireplace is a hole of darkness. \u00a0It <b>has<\/b> to have a mantle.<br \/>\nOh, let&#8217;s put up a chandelier, because this room is too dark when it&#8217;s not sunny outside.<br \/>\nNaturally, hanging the chandelier was a pain with a seriously vaulted ceiling, and no place to mount it.<br \/>\nThen the one she spent considerable cash buying wouldn&#8217;t fit &#8212; too big.<br \/>\nMy question remains; \u00a0how did this help Joe Homeowner make a grilled cheese sandwich?<br \/>\nMaybe he liked the living\/dining room fine the way it was?<br \/>\nI talked to my my engineering grad student brother a bit about this this morning. \u00a0IT is full of people like these folks who&#8217;ll change things up just on their own whims, not because something actually needs to change.<br \/>\nSometimes the users&#8217; whims come into play, but proper requirements development keeps you from buying a chandelier that&#8217;s too big. \u00a0Or buying one in the first place if one isn&#8217;t absolutely needed.<br \/>\nAll that said, I&#8217;m a bad person for thinking that way. \u00a0That&#8217;s been communicated to me enough. \u00a0Yes, I got the memo, Lumbergh.<br \/>\nStill, it&#8217;s important to remember that my own personal whim isn&#8217;t what matters, ultimately. \u00a0Maybe I was hired to build a cooking space that is easier to clean up after butter spatters all over it. \u00a0Maybe that left rear burner on the range isn&#8217;t working anymore.<br \/>\nI wouldn&#8217;t know if I didn&#8217;t actually spend the time to find out, and just attacked redoing everything just because I thought the old stuff was ugly.<br \/>\n*headdesk*<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sarah and I went to her parents&#8217; place yesterday for her sister&#8217;s birthday\/delayed Fathers&#8217; Day celebration.
