{"id":1902,"date":"2020-02-04T16:15:28","date_gmt":"2020-02-04T21:15:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/control-h.org\/wordpress\/?p=1902"},"modified":"2020-02-04T16:15:28","modified_gmt":"2020-02-04T21:15:28","slug":"searching-your-jank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/control-h.org\/index.php\/2020\/02\/04\/searching-your-jank\/","title":{"rendered":"Searching Your Jank"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>First Sunday <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"talk (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/shmoocon.org\/speakers\/#goodluckattheborder\" target=\"_blank\">talk<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quite a bit of discussion about Russian botnet influence in 2016 election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I posted something in the Slack channel about her being unhinged at one point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nobody<\/strong> has provided <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">any<\/span> evidence that what the Russian botnets did changed a single vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wired had the best synopsis of what Muller&#8217;s indictments <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"included (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/did-russia-affect-the-2016-election-its-now-undeniable\/\" target=\"_blank\">included<\/a>, but even that doesn&#8217;t show that anyone was convinced <em>not<\/em> to vote for Hillary.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The majority of people who voted in the 2016 election voted for someone other than Hillary (including me;  no, I didn&#8217;t support the President, but I definitely voted <strong><em>against<\/em><\/strong> Mrs. Clinton.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also had an implicit contention that the rash of stories about evidence of governments being agencies being afflicted with ransomware induced people to not vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wait, what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The local water department got hacked, so I&#8217;m not going to vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lots of skepticism, there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third thing was a forceful encouragement to go vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While I normally do vote, for most of my life, I&#8217;ve gone specifically to vote <strong><em>against<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>a particular candidate (see 2016, where I went to vote against Hillary and Trump).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve also heard Katherine Mangu-Ward make several compelling arguments against voting.  She wrote about this back in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"2012 (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2012\/10\/03\/your-vote-doesnt-count\/\" target=\"_blank\">2012<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As someone with views that don&#8217;t neatly-align with either of the two major parties, I appreciate it more these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It leads me to give credence to the Ancaps&#8217; argument that maybe we&#8217;d all be better off with less government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I worry a lot about what&#8217;s going to happen to me, personally, if on eof the Medicaid For All (yes, I know they call it Medicare, but it&#8217;ll be Medicaid).  People like me will just not be treated, aside from palliative care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solu-metrol is cheap.  So are various oral analgesics.  Add in anti-depressants, and all is good.  Worry less about the long-term effects;  maybe we&#8217;ll die sooner, and save money.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First Sunday talk.
