I called my Substack \u201cOkay With This\u201d because there are many things that happen in politics that end up not bothering me all that much as someone who\u2019s not a dues-paying member of either of the major political parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Democrats think I\u2019m a MAGA-ott, and must have voted for Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Republicans think I\u2019m not MAGA enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No, I call things as I analyze them, and dispense credit and blame as I deem appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was it good for Obama to kill OBL in Pakistan?  Absolutely.  Was it good for Trump to kill Soleimani in Iraq?  Also, yes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This<\/a> is big news last night and today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do I think Chairman Powell has done a good job?  No, not in the least.  Why is President Trump using the levers of government to mess with him?  Trump wants the artificially-low interest rates extended.  Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Continue juicing the economy, and;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The Federal Debt, which has increased by approximately $25 Trillion in the past fifteen years needs to be refinanced<\/a>;\u00a0 many of the short-term bonds are coming due.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    It is a continuation of President Trump\u2019s retaliatory attacks against political opponents.  Letitia James<\/a>?  Letitia James again<\/a>  Jim Comey<\/a>?  Paramount\/60 Minutes<\/a>?  And so on\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Should Powell be replaced?  I say, emphatically, \u201cYES!\u201d  Interest rates are far, far, far too low, and have been for a while now.   The Federal Reserve\u2019s inflation calculations do not include energy, equities, and housing<\/a>.  Healthcare is also excluded.  That change, made during the Clinton Administration, led to massive gains in the stock market and housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But those are the things that people spend money on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I do follow a lot of Cato\u2019s analysis on inflation<\/a>, but I\u2019m still not sure that artificially-low rates are sustainable with massive spending.  \u201cBoth sides\u201d are terrible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
