{"id":650,"date":"2013-03-23T09:59:13","date_gmt":"2013-03-23T13:59:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/control-h.org\/blog\/wordpress\/?p=650"},"modified":"2013-03-23T09:59:13","modified_gmt":"2013-03-23T13:59:13","slug":"end-of-the-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/control-h.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/23\/end-of-the-week\/","title":{"rendered":"End of the week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m really getting involved at work. \u00a0The stuff I&#8217;m doing isn&#8217;t exactly what I&#8217;d done in the past, but I do understand why it&#8217;s important. \u00a0I also understand why people who have been set in their ways wouldn&#8217;t fit in with what&#8217;s going on.<\/p>\n<p>That brings me to LinkedIn. \u00a0For some of the people there, connections and endorsements serve as a substitute for real ability. \u00a0That goes, too, for some the the people I see in &#8220;people you may know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I know that dude. \u00a0No, I don&#8217;t want to be connected to him. \u00a0In fact, if I was to see him in person, it&#8217;d be everything I could do to keep from kicking his ass. \u00a0(We&#8217;ll set aside for a moment the fact that me actually seeing him isn&#8217;t much within the realm of possibility, given my eyesight. \u00a0Kicking his ass would be tougher, still, but&#8230;..)<\/p>\n<p>So, what&#8217;s on tap for this weekend?<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Shopping for some computer stuff. \u00a0Time for a new laptop. \u00a0Leaning towards a MBP 13&#8243;. \u00a0That may well happen today. \u00a0Desktop will be something I address down the road. \u00a0I really can&#8217;t game anymore, so\u00a0building\u00a0something nice seems pointless. \u00a0Anything I buy probably has enough oomph to play the few games that I still do fire up from time to time&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Actually filing my income tax returns. \u00a0I think I did most of the work filling them out back in early February, but the job search was taking precedence. \u00a0I also planned it right, so I&#8217;m not getting much of a return.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0More fiddling with users. \u00a0I&#8217;d like to do some promotion to get people back in to using it. \u00a0I actually stuck my head into #757 the other day. \u00a0Whether or not I&#8217;m better for doing that is a matter of debate. \u00a0Some of the usual cast of characters is still around. \u00a0Others are off in the ether, which brings me to #4&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0Go see <a title=\"Another neglected blog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lifeiskillingme.org\/\">Mr. 804<\/a> who&#8217;s no longer around. \u00a0I would have headed down to WWC in Chesapeake, yesterday, but this whole not driving thing, plus a long week at work made the bus ride down there particularly unappetizing. \u00a0(I could have made this one, &#8220;drink,&#8221; but I really don&#8217;t have the constitution to do that, anymore.)<\/p>\n<p>5. \u00a0Finish watching\u00a0<em><a title=\"IMDB Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1856010\/\">House of Cards<\/a>. \u00a0<\/em>This is just another step that&#8217;s gotta have broadcast TV execs, ad execs, Whitney Cummings, worried. \u00a0First, it was worthwhile programming on A&amp;E, TNT. \u00a0Now, it&#8217;s places like iTunes and Netflix. \u00a0(And, maybe, I shouldn&#8217;t pick on Whitney. \u00a0While <i>Whitney<\/i> is, in fact, awful, and\u00a0<em>2 Broke Girls<\/em> looks that way, the latter might be fun to watch with the sound off&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>6. \u00a0NCAA Basketball. \u00a0My bracket was doing well until Harvard. \u00a0Duke hasn&#8217;t sucked its way out, yet, unfortunately. \u00a0<a title=\"Duke sucks\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fark.com\/farq\/farkisms\/#Duke_sucks\" target=\"_blank\">Duke sucks<\/a>. \u00a0I think I had Louisville over Indiana in the championship game.<\/p>\n<p>So, off to get it all underway. \u00a0Big thanks to the choadsmoker who woke me up with his shitty music outside this morning. \u00a0Your music is awesome, bro, but not as awesome as you; \u00a0don&#8217;t forget that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m really getting involved at work. \u00a0The stuff I&#8217;m doing isn&#8217;t exactly what I&#8217;d done in the past, but I do understand why it&#8217;s important. \u00a0I also understand why people who have been set in their ways wouldn&#8217;t fit in with what&#8217;s going on.
