Unfortunately, I woke up rather early this morning, and am seeing the reactions to the Zimmerman trial.<\/p>\n
One aspect of the response is possibly more disturbing than the complete acquittal, itself.<\/p>\n
The NAACP wants the DOJ to pursue charges against Zimmerman for violating Martin’s civil rights.<\/p>\n
(Leftie Blog<\/a>, Rightie Blog<\/a>, but they say pretty much the same things.)<\/p>\n The LAPD thugs were\u00a0agents of the<\/em>\u00a0state<\/strong>.<\/em> \u00a0Zimmerman wasn’t. \u00a0There is a civil remedy available if justice wasn’t served. \u00a0LA and the State of California (actually, probably their insurance companies’ policies) paid Rodney King those civil remedies. \u00a0Since Zimmerman is a private citizen, all that’d be there to collect would be whatever that wannabe Cartman fat fuck has, personally.<\/p>\n Since the LAPD thugs were acting as agents of the state, the civil claim would have been against the state.<\/p>\n So, what’s the point? \u00a0It’s disturbing to think of nationally-institutionalized double jeopardy if criminal proceedings in state courts don’t achieve “justice.”<\/p>\n Where would it stop? \u00a0Very disturbed, NAACP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Unfortunately, I woke up rather early this morning, and am seeing the reactions to the Zimmerman trial.
