{"id":720,"date":"2013-07-20T12:31:36","date_gmt":"2013-07-20T16:31:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/control-h.org\/blog\/wordpress\/?p=720"},"modified":"2013-07-20T12:31:36","modified_gmt":"2013-07-20T16:31:36","slug":"ask-the-right-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/control-h.org\/index.php\/2013\/07\/20\/ask-the-right-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"Ask the right questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At work, lately, I&#8217;ve been trying to do that.<\/p>\n<p>I spent some time talking about the <a title=\"MVC wiki pops\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MVC_model\" target=\"_blank\">MVC Model<\/a>, but I&#8217;m not entirely certain that&#8217;s entirely the issue I&#8217;m working through.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly, a lot of the emphasis the past few years has been working only on the Controller portion. \u00a0Where&#8217;s that gotten people? \u00a0Bloated monstrosities that still don&#8217;t let users do what they need to do. \u00a0(Inspires flashbacks to <a title=\"Gentoo is for Ricers\" href=\"http:\/\/funroll-loops.info\/\" target=\"_blank\">funroll-loops<\/a>. \u00a0Sadly, in a professional setting, they aren&#8217;t fucking with compiler flags, they&#8217;re just cobbling on more and more hardware, using someone else&#8217;s checkbook.)<\/p>\n<p>I want to ask the questions that let me know what it is people actually need to do. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t care less about the actual mechanics in the early stages.<\/p>\n<p>The people who want the gargantuan solutions don&#8217;t want to ask those questions; \u00a0might keep them from building that wicked setup. \u00a0But that wicked setup might not fill the users&#8217; needs. \u00a0How would you know that? \u00a0Besides, it&#8217;s got this nifty failover&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At work, lately, I&#8217;ve been trying to do that.
