{"id":954,"date":"2014-03-01T11:17:25","date_gmt":"2014-03-01T16:17:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/control-h.org\/blog\/wordpress\/?p=954"},"modified":"2014-03-01T11:17:25","modified_gmt":"2014-03-01T16:17:25","slug":"unhealthy-healthcare-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/control-h.org\/index.php\/2014\/03\/01\/unhealthy-healthcare-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Unhealthy Healthcare IT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week&#8217;s been less than fun, and culminated with me having a rather serious flare. \u00a0Three days of <a title=\"Fuckin' Roids\" href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/drugs\/drug-6135-Solu-Medrol+Inj.aspx?drugid=6135&amp;\" target=\"_blank\">Solu-Medtrol <\/a>later, I&#8217;m somewhat okay. \u00a0I can at least read text off my phone, which I couldn&#8217;t do Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>That I tolerated the infusions okay probably means I&#8217;m going to be headed for <a title=\"Tysabri\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalmssociety.org\/Treating-MS\/Medications\/Tysabri-\u00ae\" target=\"_blank\">Tysabri<\/a>. \u00a0I&#8217;m not terribly thrilled, but if it&#8217;d keep my eyes where they are now, it&#8217;d be worth it. If they get my eyes back to the point where I can drive again, even better.<\/p>\n<p>But with the tumult after the four-letter laid me off, because my former shining example of a boss screwed up my paperwork, things didn&#8217;t get squared away with my COBRA paperwork until after my coverage terminated. \u00a0Of course, it was reinstated retroactive after we paid, but&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been spending copious amounts of time dealing with various docs&#8217; and insurance companies&#8217; sites. \u00a0None of them work together. \u00a0Google Health died a couple of years ago. \u00a0The healthcare.gov rollout has been an unmitigated disaster.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I&#8217;ve been trying to get a refill on one of my medications. \u00a0Because I was supposed to order the refill during the time my coverage had lapsed on paper, I didn&#8217;t. \u00a0I have to get my PCP to call it in. \u00a0And I&#8217;ll be out before the mailorder house can get the stuff processed and shipped, much less delivered.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, I&#8217;m having to juggle four website logins while I&#8217;m doing this, none of which really communicates with the others. \u00a0(The prescription and health insurance sort of do, but there&#8217;s sometimes a couple of days&#8217; delay before things get updated.)<\/p>\n<p>Why don&#8217;t we have single-payer insurance, or a system where the consumer would choose whatever insurance he wanted, and stick with it regardless of his employment situation?<\/p>\n<p>My property insurance company provides health coverage, but it&#8217;s through another company, not directly through them. \u00a0I can continue getting raped paying COBRA. \u00a0(And when I say that, I&#8217;m not kidding. \u00a0It costs more than rent\/power\/intertubes\/tv\/etc.) \u00a0I can try whatever healthcare.gov barfs out. \u00a0Or&#8230;.?<\/p>\n<p>Disability isn&#8217;t something I can really consider yet, nor does it do anything about my wife.<\/p>\n<p>Say it with me, with gusto, &#8220;FORWARD.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week&#8217;s been less than fun, and culminated with me having a rather serious flare. \u00a0Three days of Solu-Medtrol later, I&#8217;m somewhat okay. \u00a0I can at least read text off my phone, which I couldn&#8217;t do Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
