Workers\' Paradise

On Orkut I feel like I’m really in the minority in the American Politics community (if you don’t have an Orkut account, and want one, drop me an e-mail). There are so many confirmed Socialists…and those who sincerely believe that the United States was worse than the Soviet Union. I thought those people had really dried up. Now I’m being assaulted by quotes from that Khmer Rouge apologist, Noam Chomsky. It’s really disheartening to see that people still are busy denying what happened in the Evil Empire. Even more disturbing is that it’s still going on today.
What’s more disturbing, and perhaps this speaks to blogs, too, is what people use as evidence for their arguments. I really try to guard against using what I’d consider to be overly-biased sources, yet, these folks have no qualms about doing it. I don’t know if it’s because they are so blinded by their agendas that any evidence is fine, or if they just haven’t ever had to write scholarly papers.
All I can say is it’s really disappointing.

Babel Sushi

I was looking for a recipe for pfeffersuppe, which I used to get when I lived in Germany. It’s way hot, but I’ve never been able to find something in a cookbook here that resembles it. So, google for pfeffersuppe, find something, and translate it. You get fun stuff like this:

2 Paprikaschote(n), green
1 Stange/n Allium (leek)
1 Stange/n Celery
1 Zwiebel(n) (vegetable bulb)
200g Ham, cooked
100g Spaetzle, refined
1 Litre Rinderbruehe
50g Butter
2 EL Pepper – grains, green
2 EL Parsley, chopped
1 Msp. Muskat, rubbed
Salt
PREPARATION
The vegetable bulb take off. The sellerie deseam, which hard threads remove. The leek deseam. The Paprikaschoten halve, entkernen and the white septa remove.
The vegetable wash and into fine strips cut.
The butter in a pot zerlassen. Therein the vegetable easily, with Rinderbruehe abloeschen anbraeunen. Heat to reduce and with small heat about 15 minutes easily cook leave.
The cooked ham in strips cut and together with the Spaetzle briefly before end the time to the soup give.
The soup with pepper grains, parsley, salt and Muskat taste and serve.

Zweiblen = onions.
I’m probably close to being able to fix it, but the stuff I had didn’t have spatzle, and I don’t have a clue what “Rinderbruehe” is.

I think I’m going to make a few changes coming soon with how I write. As some of you may know, I have another online journal that I’ve been keeping since the summer of 1999. I still keep it up, and very few people I know IRL have read it. In fact, I think I can count the number of people on one hand. That one is for more private things, as well as my own sometimes tortured thoughts. Nobody wants to hear me bitch and whine, right?
The Livejournal account I set up to communicate with people I do know, mostly from CNU, although I’ve added a few others along the way.
My blog is something I started because I wanted to try out some of the other software. Livejournal’s native interface has always annoyed me a bit, and I’ve yet to find a client that really works well for me. I can also write stuff in the blog that’s just fluff….bullshitting back and forth with the #757 posse.
I think, however, I’m going to change things up. I think what I am going to do is set the Livejournal account to “friends only,” and write the fluff in the blog. That way I can write more serious stuff on LJ, and have some privacy. If you are on Livejournal, and wish to continue to see my steaming piles of wisdom, check my friends page. I’ve set up a RSS feed of the #757 blogfeed. If you add that as a friend, you’ll get me, along with the other people. If you don’t have a paid account, and just want me, pester the fuck out of me, and I’ll make an RSS feed of just me.
If you is ain’t be on my friends page, and you think you ought to be, drop a note.
That’s it for the moment. The friends-only switch will happen when I decide I’ve got something semi-private (read: I don’t want my employer reading) to post.
