Trolls Rock!

From funroll-loops.org
“If Debian people think compiling sucks, well so what? I guess they’re satisfied with Someone Else’s Binaries. I prefer to play on Gentoo’s strengths. I get exactly what I want compiled in — nothing less, nothing more, and with the optimizations I want.”
And the mantra so oft-repeated in #757. “FreeBSD is perfect.” “Source distribution is more efficient.”
See what happens when you complete a buildworld and buildkernel, then install them. On a machine with bad ram. I’m dealing from experience right now. It ain’t a pretty picture.
Give me md5sum’d binaries compiled on good hardware any day. Seriously.

  1. Better make them compile the binary 20 different ways to do what you need it to. Some machines you dont want certain features on or dont want to have the package the binary relys on. The machine should of let you know if you had ECC and turned on memory check when the machine first came on? Or you doing the speed ram count.

  2. Different strokes for different folks.
Why can’t everyone just write modular software and distribute binaries with shit as loadable modules.
Windows software seems to have grasped that concept YEARS ago. In fact, I’ve *NEVER* had to compile shit for windows.
Just because I use Open Source doesn’t neccesarily mean I want to SEE AND USE the code, I just want to know that it’s there so if it’s mission critical, I can pay someone else to fix it if I need to.
    And it’s free, usually 🙂
Fuck compiling stuff. I don’t have 8 years to install a server or apache or whatever. Everything needs to be dynamically loaded binary modules!
